Relevant Experience and Computer Skills

I have been translating and interpreting in every area of human activity from an early age because my parents lacked the ability to learn foreign languages quickly enough. Due to the fact that I grew up in a number of different countries and thus learned in the best possible way I have three mother tongues – English, German, and Russian – as well as fluent French.

Due to personal circumstances I have left medicine, settled in Ireland in 1996, obtained the status of a Professional Member with the Irish Translators’ and Interpreters’ Association, and have been working as a freelance interpreter and translator. My customer list includes most of the largest Irish agencies for translation work, the Limerick District and Circuit Courts (as well as other courts on occasion), and for the highest Government-level interpreting work the Austrian Embassy including the Ambassador, the Vice-Chancellor, and every Minister who had ever visited Ireland. I lived in Vienna for two years and thus, am familiar with the specifics of the Austrian German.

I am an advanced computer user with a good knowledge of most types of software. Working freelance I have learned to use the latest technology to my fullest advantage. I work with a wireless Broadband connection, but also have three other ways of transferring information using the Internet as a back-up. I possess the best and latest in computer and other electronic equipment including 1 desktop computer, 2 laptops and 1 microcomputer (the smallest Sony laptop in the world) providing for more than enough back-up in the event of a breakdown and battery power in the event of a power failure. I work with Trados and other CAT tools.
